About University of Blue Cross and Blue Crescent (UBC)

The University of Blue Cross and Blue Crescent (UBC), is a non-governmental humanitarian agency that is part of the Blue Cross and Blue Crescent movement and is the movements mandated ‘University for Humanity’ established as a treaty organization of the Conference of the Blue Cross and Blue Crescent Movement (CBCM).

As determined in the Charter of the University, and as mandated by the Movement, the mission of the University for Humanity is:”to provide humanity with an university of humanitarian education with the aim of fascilitating and promoting among humanity the spirit of sharing knowledge, skills and understanding among people and to stimulate the use of skills and knowledge to be used to help one another, and to help lessen the effects of disasters and catastrophes on vulnerable populations, in keeping with the noble aspirations proclaimed in the governing constitution of the Blue Cross and Blue Crescent”.

The vision of the University is to become a network of collaborating ‘University for Humanity’ centres and activities in different regions, guided by the movement and in cooperation with a large number of universities, NGOs and other partners on education and research.

The University (UBC) organise and implement the ‘Streetwise Program’ including ‘Street Seminars’, ‘Street Schools’ and ‘Street Skills’ initiatives…to help educate the poor!
The University’s work respects the Movement’s fundamental principles, as defined by the Conference of the Blue Cross and Blue Crescent Movement, notably those of humanitarianism, volunteerism, moralism, transparency, impartiality, empowerment, sustainability, neutrality, benevolence and respect.

The University endorses the principles of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative, to generate a global movement of minds to promote a new culture of intellectual social responsibility. The UBC is totally committed to use education as an engine for addressing global problems. We actively support and demonstrate our commitment to the United Nations Academic Impact’s ten universally accepted principles.
